Entrepreneurial Burnout: Breaking Free from the Solo Hustle

February 16, 20232 min read

Are you feeling overwhelmed and burnt out as a woman business owner, trying to do it all in both your professional and personal life? You’re not alone. Many entrepreneurs fall into the trap of thinking they have to take on everything, but the truth is that no one can handle everything on their own.

The Myth

As a business owner and a woman, I have often found myself struggling with the belief that I have to do everything alone. Many of us have heard the song “I’m Every Woman” and internalized the idea that we must juggle everything ourselves. We believe that we are the only ones who can cook, clean, tend to the children (both human and pet), run the finances, and take care of every aspect of our businesses. We think that if we disappeared overnight, everything and everyone in our world would fall apart because we are every woman.

Reality

This mentality puts an unprecedented amount of stress on us, and it’s not true. We’re trying to map ourselves into an untruth and make it happen. When we hear stories of self-made millionaires or billionaires who started their businesses all by themselves, it’s simply not true. They had an immense amount of support, whether they paid for it or not. All they had to do was focus on what they do best, and then they had support all around that. They didn’t do it all alone.

Be A Superhero 😉

I want to remind everyone that we don’t have to do it all alone. Even superheroes have sidekicks and all sorts of support that help them be the superhero. We can be the hero of our own stories, but we need support and help. We don’t have to run out and hire a virtual assistant right now if we don’t already have one, but we can start by making things in our businesses and homes repeatable.

For example, we can use programs like BerryCast (I use that one) or Loom to record what we do on the computer and save it. We can whip out our cell phones to make recordings of things that are not on the computer. Later, someone can come in, look at the recordings, and make a step-by-step checklist of what we did. Then, whenever someone does it, they can go through the checklist so they don’t miss a step.

We can also make explainer videos within our business and home to offload something we do to someone else. This works in every area of our lives where we need to offload something we do to someone else. Making these videos can make things so much simpler and less stressful for us.

Bottomline: We don’t have to do it all alone, and we don’t have to believe the myth that we are every woman.
